K.M.C.D. Syndicate was formed to develop a motion picture system to compete with and would not infringe upon the patented Edison Manufacturing Company system. In 1894-1895, former Edison employees W.K.L. Dickson and Herman Casler would develop the Mutoscope camera and viewing system. The company as such would not produce any commercial films itself, only experimental test films (one known to have been produced in September 1894), as the company was reorganized as the American Mutoscope Company on 27 December 1894.
