The Slottsbiografen (The Castle Cinema) was built in 1914 upon the site of a building that previously housed the Upsala-Biografen (1906-1913). Decorative murals were painted by the artist Gusten Widerbäck.

Among silent era audiences at the Slottsbiografen was a young Ingmar Bergman, his grandmother living just a block away from the theatre.

The Slottsbiografen was restored from 1993 to 1996 to its original 1914 state, and is now protected as part of the national heritage in Sweden.
